As a first-generation college student I clearly remember the uncertainty and challenges of the college search, application process, completing college and graduate school. More recently I helped my sons successfully navigated the search and both in the midst of their college experiences. I am also a 1988 graduate of Oberlin College. It is for these reasons that I am so excited to be working in the Office of Admissions.
My knowledge of and experience in higher education began at Oberlin where I studied art history. Afterward, it was on to UCLA to complete the Asian American Studies MA Program and that launched me into my first career. I worked for a number of years in the nonprofit sector as an education specialist with the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California and in the Washington office of the Organization of Chinese Americans to lead a national research project. I missed working with students and in higher education so I made the switch in 1995 and became an academic advisor at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Arizona, working with pre-major advising for first-generation and low-income college students. During this time I had my two children before moving back to Oberlin in 1997 to start working in the Office of Residential Education. I joined the Admissions staff in 2000. Which brings us back to now. I'm so happy to be working with you as you consider applying to one of the country's top liberal arts and sciences school. Please be in touch if I can be of any assistance.
