Dates and Deadlines

There are two decision plans under which you may apply to Oberlin College: regular decision and early decision. We accept applications for early decision at two different times of the year; applications for regular decision are accepted only once a year.

The Early Decision Plan is for students who, after careful consideration, have decided that Oberlin is their first choice. An early decision application is a binding commitment that should be carefully considered. Students applying under the Early Decision Plan must agree to enroll if accepted. If Oberlin admits you, you must withdraw applications to all other institutions.

Here are the deadlines:

Steps Regular Decision Early Decision I Early Decision II
Common Application January 15 November 15 January 2
Supplement January 15 November 15 January 2
Notification April 1 December 15 February 1
Reply/Deposit Due
May 1 January 2 February 15

Begin preparing your application materials well in advance of the deadline, and be sure to give your guidance counselor and teachers plenty of time to write their letters of recommendation. All required documents should be submitted by the applicable deadline; please call us at 800-622-6243 if you are having any difficulty completing your application.

Regular Decision

The Common Application is available both online and in paper form. The deadline for submission is Jan. 15. You must also submit Oberlin's Supplement to the Common Application and $35 fee.

Although the Common Application and the Supplement are available online, test scores may not be submitted online. Students are notified of their admission status by April 1.

Early Decision I

If Oberlin College is your first choice, consider applying under the Early Decision Plan. In recent years, about one third of first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences have enrolled through an Early Decision Plan.

Notification for Early Decision I applicants (either admission, deferral, or denial) occurs by mid-December; notification for Early Decision II applicants occurs before Feb. 1. For admitted students, financial aid and scholarship packages follow soon after.

The Jones Farm is owned by Oberlin College, but operated privately by a group of college alumni dedicated to increasing sustainable commerce in the Northeastern area of Ohio.
