Students declaring a major in English need to present the following forms, first to your advisor and then to the department chair:
(1) Checklist for the Major : A list of all the requirements for the major laid out systematically. Download two copies of this form, fill them out with information about all the courses you've taken so far, and take them to your advisor. After checking to be sure all the information is correct, your advisor will keep one for his or her files, and initial the other one, which you then take to the department chair, along with:
(2) a Declaration of Major form, which you get from the registrar's office, and
(3) a Plan for the Major, a brief but thoughtful discussion of your ideas about your English major and how you might want to organize it. We know you won't have all the answers yet, but we'd like to know what your current thinking is. Here's a sample of what it might look like. Take yours to your advisor with #s 1 and 2.
Once these forms are signed by the chair, take them to the registrar's office and you'll be an English major.
