My research interest lies mainly with the French Enlightenment and counter-Enlightenment movements of the eighteenth-century. I investigate how writers from each group influenced the cultural landscape of their time, and how our perception as modern readers is transformed once we recognize the role of the philosophes in relation to their adversaries. I am also interested in French theater and novel, modern adaptations of pre-revolutionary French literature, rhetoric, history of religion, philosophy of the Enlightenment and counter-Enlightenment.
