Beatriz Cobeta completed her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, during the course of which she spent one year studying at the Université Paris-Sorbonne in Paris, France. She earned a Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from the UNED in Madrid and did her training as a Spanish instructor in the Instituto Cervantes in Rome, Italy. She also taught at the Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”.
She is currently on leave from her position at George Washington University in DC, where she teaches all levels of Spanish and coordinates. As an educator her goal is to create an environment in the classroom where students feel supported and confident as well as promote cross-cultural interest and understanding. She practices a communicative approach, using task-based activities. She is currently co-authoring a content-based Advanced Spanish textbook with Professor María de la Fuente that has a strong emphasis on international and current affairs.
