Jason Petrulis is a historian of the politics and culture of capitalism in the United States and the world. In 2012-13, he will teach The US since 1945, US Foreign Policy since 1898, Gender and the Suburbs, US-Asia Wars in History and Memory, and Commodities and Commoditization in US History. He is completing his first book, America the Brand: How Government and Business Learned To Sell America, which examines how US government officials and corporate marketers cooperated during World War II and the early Cold War to bring modern marketing techniques into government, transforming business, government, and citizenship. His current research project, The Rise and Fall of the Asiatic Wig, 1958-1979, traces the global “life” of a commodity to tease out how policy, economics, and culture connected Asia and the US during the Cold War.
