What is an Inference?

Philosophers have spent much time examining the conditions under which we are justified in drawing a conclusion from some premises. But what is it to draw a conclusion from some premises? It's obviously not just a matter of believing the premises and also believing the conclusion. It's also not just a matter of believing the conclusion because you believe the premises—some causal relations among beliefs are clearly not inferential relations. In this talk, I will address the question of what it is to draw a conclusion from some premises.
