Sonic Arts Workshop:
Composing Electronic & Computer Music

This workshop focuses on the composition of electroacoustic music and is geared toward high school students interested in expanding their technical and creative resources. Topics will include digital audio editing and manipulation, real-time computer music performance techniques, and discussion of pieces from the field's growing repertoire. The program will cover issues of interest to young composers heading towards conservatory studies and also non-musicians who are interested in experimenting with electronic and computer music.

The workshops will focus on your original creative work. Generous blocks of time will be available in Oberlin's electronic and computer music complex. Faculty and participants will listen to your works in progress and share reactions, suggestions, and criticisms. The workshop concludes with an informal concert to present your music to the public.
Although you will have access to the TIMARA studios, you may want to bring your own hardware or software. We will help you learn more about your gear - be sure to bring the manuals.
Former students have been accepted to conservatories and colleges around the United States, including the TIMARA (Technology in Music and Related Arts) Department at Oberlin. Others have used what they learned with us to further professional careers in music.
The workshops this summer will be substantially different from previous summers. If you attended previously, you will discover real benefits to returning.
