I graduated from Oberlin in 2004 with majors in Latin American Studies and Economics.   Although I am originally from Paraguay, many of my years of higher education were spent away from home.  I was grateful to find at Oberlin the opportunity to explore more of Latin America from an academic perspective.  There I was able to combine my interests in the fields of economics, politics, history and literature with my academic curiosity about Latin America .

Within the Hispanic Studies Department I took a number of Latin American literature classes.   In these classes I was exposed to delightful readings, engaging class discussions and very, very knowledgeable professors.  I also had the pleasure to work with the faculty of the department as a teaching assistant for intermediate level classes.   In my TA role I organized different activities and served as a mediator in exceptionally energetic class discussions.  While at Oberlin I also served as a Chief-Editor of Voces, our bilingual (Spanish/English) newspaper.  In that role I coordinated the efforts of our enthusiastic contributors, editors, and lay-out team; basically I oversaw every task involved in getting the great articles from our contributors (and their amazing pictures) out in print.

After I graduated from Oberlin I joined the energy practice at NERA Economic Consulting in Boston.  I have been there for the past two years.  Our work concentrates on issues surrounding regulation, tariff design, competition, and reasonable regulatory practices in the energy and transportation industries. Many of our clients are abroad and some of them are in Latin America.  I enjoy my work and the people I work with and I find it challenging and exiting.  I am considering applying to graduate school in the very near future and I am currently looking at MBA, MPP and MPA programs.   All in all, life after Oberlin has been great so far, and I am thankful for the difference that an Oberlin education has made in my life.
