I attended Oberlin from 1995 to 2000 as a double-degree student in Spanish and Flute Performance. From 1998-2000 I was lucky enough to participate in a Winter Term project as the flute teacher at the Campamento Musical Juvenil in Panama City and El Valle, Panama. After 5 long years at Oberlin I needed a break from being a student before going to graduate school and moved back home to Maryland, where I taught Spanish and French to 1st-5th graders in Montgomery County. I was a teacher for the FLES (Foreign Languages in Elementary Schools) extracurricular program- the very same program I began my Spanish classes in 4th grade! In 2001 I moved to Phoenix to pursue a MM in flute performance at Arizona State University and then continued on to a DMA degree. During this time I tutored a few students privately in Spanish, and had several native speakers as flute students. In the fall of 2004 I left my beloved Arizona (and my studies!) to join the Army as a member of The US Army Field Band in Ft. Meade, Maryland, where I will hopefully eventually finish my degree!
