At Oberlin I majored in History and Latin American Studies, and minored in Hispanic Studies and English.  My history honors thesis examined popular representations of women and maquiladoras in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  In January 2003, I participated in the first Oberlin College/SEPA human rights delegation to Guatemala and afterwards I co-founded Oberlin Students in Solidarity with Guatemala (OSSGUA).  I also chaired OSCA's Nicaragua Sister Co-op Committee for a number of semesters.  After graduation, I spent the fall interning at the National Security Archive in Washington DC, working for analyst Peter Kornbluh on the Chile and Cuba Declassification Projects.  In February 2006 I moved to Chile to begin one year of studies at the Universidad de Concepcion (Concepcion, CHILE) funded by Rotary International.  I'm currently in the process of applying to U.S. Ph.D. programs in Latin American history.   When I come home from Chile, I've been offered a full-time Research Assistant job back at the NSA in DC, where I will be for half a year until grad school starts in the Fall 2007.

I would love to hear from prospective Oberlin students and Hispanic Studies majors/minors, especially regarding Latin America oriented student organizations on campus and the application process for Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships.  My current e-mail is: Marian.Schlotterbeck@gmail.com.
