Nick, while at Oberlin, before becoming famous!
My time at Oberlin was evenly divided between my two majors, Spanish and an Individual Film/TV major. I truly enjoyed the many language and Spanish lit. classes I took with professors such as Ana Cara and Fermando Arrojo. More than just a major, I definitely felt like I was part of a small community. The classes not only strengthened my ability to express myself in Spanish, but also gave me a deeper understanding of hispanic cultures around the world through classic and contemporary literature. My main focus ended up being on translation. My junior year, my advisor asked me to translate several of his short stories into English, which was quite an exciting project. My honor thesis was focused on "the impossibility of a perfect translation.”
After leaving Oberlin, I moved to Los Angeles where I have been working in the entertainment industry (my other passion). I worked for many years as an editor on several reality shows, and recently moved into writing and directing fiction. My award-winning short film "Ryan's Life" is being turned into a television series, and I also recently wrote an episode of the NBC series "Medium." I have been married to my wonderful husband, Aron, since August 2003.
I'm always happy to hear from Oberlin students, alums and staff, so feel free to email! nicwauters@aol.com
"Nick's Official Bio"
Born and raised in Belgium, writer/director Nick Wauters has written screenplays and been involved in film, TV and theater for as long as he can remember.
After hosting a radio show at age 12 and creating the concept for a long-running show on one of the national Belgian networks, Wauters moved to the States in 1992 to attend classes at Oberlin College, Ohio. After receiving his B.A., he moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a production assistant for OC Alum James Burrows ("Cheers", "Will & Grace").
Wauters then spent a couple of years exploring various aspects of television production and development before transitioning into the world of freelance video editing, getting a chance to "write with images." He has worked as co-producer and senior editor on shows such as "Jules Sylvester's Wild Adventures" (Travel Channel), "The American Teacher Awards" (Lifetime), "Weekend Warriors" (HGTV) and "Party Starters" (Food Network), as well as many pilots.
" Ryan's Life" (writer/director), his second outing into the short film arena, has played in over 50 festivals all over the world, winning over 12 audience awards, including the Audience Award for Outstanding Narrative Short at Outfest 2005. Previously, Wauters wrote, produced and directed a tongue-in-cheek adaptation of a Stephen King short story entitled "Rainy Season."
Wauters recently penned an episode of the NBC hit series "Medium" (May 2006), starring Patricia Arquette and special guest star Molly Ringwald. He is currently writing and executive-producing the first season of the "Ryan's Life" series for Here! Networks, and developing new projects.
Wauters is repped by Beth Bohn at APA and Attorney Barbara Rubin.
Nick now, a Hollywood writer/director!
