Commencement Exercises Update
First Lady Michelle Obama to Address 2015 Graduating Class
First Lady Michelle Obama will receive an honorary degree and speak at Oberlin College during the Commencement ceremony. Oberlin College is being recognized for supporting the First Lady’s higher education initiative, Reach Higher, and doing its part to answer President Obama’s call to ensure that by the year 2020, America once again has the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund, is the Commencement speaker.
In order to ensure that our graduates and their families have a truly wonderful and congratulatory celebration, seating for Oberlin College’s 2015 Commencement ceremony will be ticketed. While we are doing our best to accommodate requests for tickets, we ask that everyone remember that seating is limited. Standing-room only attendance is unlimited and does not require tickets. Parking in the city of Oberlin will be at a premium on May 25.
Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. More information about the procession will be forthcoming. More details may be found by going to For Family and Friends web page.
Eligibility to Graduate
Students who have questions about their eligibility to participate in Commencement exercises should contact Kelly Cassidy, degree auditor at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (440) 775-8450.
In general, a student must be registered for work sufficient to complete all requirements for the degree(s) sought by the end of the last semester in residence in order to be eligible to participate in the annual Commencement exercises following that semester. Students who have permission to finish their work away from Oberlin may participate in Commencement exercises only after all requirements have been met. Mid-year 2014 graduates and their families are invited to participate in all Commencement/Reunion Weekend festivities, including Commencement exercises.
Your family members in record with the Office of the Registrar will receive Commencement mailings if the graduating student has provided the registrar’s office with address information. If this information was not provided, send an e-mail to email@example.com and provide the name and address of the parent not listed with the registrar. In an effort to protect the privacy of the student, our policy requires that the graduating senior must make the request.
Refer to the Commencement/Reunion Weekend booklet, which provides information and highlights of major events.
