JUDAISM AND JEWISH THOUGHT AND EXPRESSION
The Jewish Studies Program and the Department of Religion at Oberlin College invite applications for a full-time, non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two years beginning Fall, 2010 and is expected to carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. Appointment at other ranks may be considered.
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses a year in Jewish religious thought and expression from any period from the Second Commonwealth to the present. Research and teaching specialties within this general area are open. The incumbent will offer introductory, intermediate-level and advanced courses(seminars) and is also expected to participate in advising Honors projects in Jewish Studies and/or senior capstone projects in Religion. Knowledge of texts in their original languages and of theory and methods in Religious Studies are essential.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2010-11). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable. Courses and faculty research areas in the Jewish Studies Program and Department of Religion span eastern and western traditions from the ancient world through contemporary issues.
