About the Center for Information Technology

CIT consists of different groups with specific responsibilities and functions to meet and support the information technology needs of the campus community. The staff is friendly, highly skilled, and service-oriented. The department is in the lower level of the Oberlin College Library, housed in the Seeley G. Mudd Center in Wilder Bowl, considered the heart of campus.

Among CIT's many duties are managing and administering the campus network and campuswide servers; providing technology support to faculty and administrative staff for academic purposes; troubleshooting and repairing software problems; and providing some user training and workshops. CIT also operates a Help Desk and manages the Oberlin Technology Store, where you can purchase many electronic and computer equipment and accessories at educational rates.

Director of Information Technology Overall responsibility for campus-wide information technology resources; IT planning and development
Administrative Computing Services Supports administrative office computing functions of the college, primarily through Ellucian’s Banner Student, Accounts Receivable, HR Payroll, Position Control, Finance, and Financial Aid, along with PRESTO and DegreeWorks.  We provide OnBase for document management.  We also provide end-user support for EMS for campus-wide event scheduling, CBORD Odyssey for Housing and Dining Assignments, and Acalog for the online course catalog.  We also provide regular data feeds to or from Banner for other campus systems such as BlackBoard's LMS, Portal and Emergency Alert Systems, Raiser's Edge, SchoolDude (Facilities Work Orders), Maxient (Judicial System), eTranscript and others.
Audiovisual Services Provides audio-visual support services to the college community.
Client Services Runs CIT Help Desk; administers and maintains computer labs, including lab printing; provides student consulting staff; sets up and delivers faculty and staff Windows computers; installs and maintains software in the labs; troubleshoots and repairs software problems; maintains some servers; provides centralized backups for administrative departments; maintains CIT website; provides some user training; provides user documentation online
Computer Sales & Service Provides sales of Macintosh & Windows computers, peripherals, accessories and software to individuals and departments; sets up and delivers faculty and staff Macintosh computers; troubleshoots and repairs hardware problems, including printers
Desktop Resources Manages replacement of computers (faculty and staff desktops & laptops); supervises Sales and Service department
Networking, Operations, and Systems Manages and administers campus network, including Resnet, and connections to Internet; provides planning and development for the future; monitors and administers bandwidth usage; manages and administers most campus-wide servers, including mail server and web server, DNS, DHCP, etc.; administers LOCKER space; creates and manages computer accounts; configures printers for network access; manages Uniprint system; provides computer operations, including payroll data entry and required printouts.
Oberlin Center for Technologically Enhanced Teaching (OCTET) Provides technology support to faculty, and administrative staff who support faculty, for academic purposes. Administers the Blackboard course management system; provides online resources; conducts workshops.
