Audio Visual

CIT includes the Audio-Visual (AV) Department, whose purpose is to provide the AV resources required to support the academic mission of the College. The AV Department is located on the 4th floor of Mudd Center, 775-8757. 

AV's role on campus takes many forms:

Smart Classrooms

AV staff research, procure and install the equipment necessary to create and update the smart classrooms on campus.  These classrooms generally have a projector system and instructor station.  Many use the latest technology - LCD displays, high lumen projectors, digital control panels.

AV staff are prepared will provide training on the use of specific smart classrooms, upon request.  

Equipment for Checkout

AV maintains a cache of equipment, available for checkout to students, faculty, and staff.  Equipment for checkout includes:

  • digital cameras
  • projectors
  • projector screens

AV staff will provide guidelines on the use of this equipment,  For example, they will provide instruction on how to download photos from a digital camera to a computer.

Note: Checkout of DVDs, VHS video tapes, and audio CDs is handled at the Main Library Circulation Desk.


AV provides and maintains equipment in Mudd 456 to support video conferencing.  The room is also a smart classroom, with a digital controller, hookup for a laptop computer, and large LCD display.  The equipment is all IP-based. 

This facility sees a wide variety of use, such as:

  • video conferencing with a guest lecturer
  • hosting a video conferenced discussion with a content expert in a particular field
  • video conferencing with students in a classroom in another country

Specialized Facilities

The AV staff schedule the use of two very specialized facilities, Mudd 456, used for video conferencing, and Mudd 050, an auditorium with smart classroom technology, a large screen, backlit projector, hookup for laptops and iPods, and a built-in DVD player. 

Event Support

With proper advanced notification, AV can provide event support by way of delivery and setup of portable projectors and screens.  Notification is required 2 weeks prior to the event.

Note: Audio support for non-academic functions is handled by Concert Sound in the Student Union.
