Overview

The Entrepreneurship Scholars is an intensive winter term program designed to provide exceptionally creative and motivated Oberlin students with a dynamic environment in which to explore and develop their ideas. The program supports students with a wide variety of ambitions, including starting a grassroots organization, offering a new product or service, launching a tour, commercializing a discovery, and more.

2012 Program

The January 2012 Entrepreneurship Scholars program will take place in New York City, Cleveland, and Oberlin, and will include 15-20 talks by leading entrepreneurial alumni and friends of the college, intensive skills building workshops, and peer collaboration. The program also allocates time for students to work intensively on their specific projects.

By participating in the Entrepreneurship Scholars Program, students will:

  • Engage with the challenges of realizing their ideas through hands-on workshops, case studies, and lectures;
  • Gain familiarity with the issues entrepreneurs encounter in planning, financing, and launching a venture;
  • Explore and refine their original concepts through conversations with peers, advisors, and lecturers;
  • Become acquainted with a network of alumni and other professionals who can provide feedback and guidance on their ideas;
  • Make concrete steps toward realizing their creative ideas.

Becoming an E-ship Scholar

The Entrepreneurship Scholars Program selects students based on their leadership capabilities, their passion for exploring an original idea, and their interest in engaging with professionals and peers who have diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.

Applicants must have an idea they wish to explore further. This idea can be in the concept phase, or it can be more developed. Applicants should have a basic outline of the activities that they will pursue outside of the seminar week related to making progress on their idea. Examples of these activities include going on tour, doing market research, developing a product, offering a service, shadowing relevant professionals, or doing a feasibility study.
