Contemporary Music Project (Spring 2008-09)

A former pupil of Sun Pian, Ran Duan began his piano studies at age seven and attended the pre-college division of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Mr. Duan is a double-major student at Oberlin studying composition with Lewis Nielson and piano with Lydia Frumkin. His piece Four Falsehoods (2008) was selected for the album Aural Capacity No.5, the collaborative CD recording of Oberlin Conservatory student works, also selected for the performance in the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Ran is 2009 recipient of Oberlin’s Ernest Hatch Wilkins Memorial Prize, given in recognition of academic excellence.
