Creating a Geographic Instrument logo

Project Description

Will Johnson ’17 and Sage Jenson ’17 will spend 2017 Winter Term building a geographically-based software instrument. Fascinated by the American landscape, we will draw inspiration from the visual art tradition, seeking to sonically recontextualize the work of second generation Hudson River school artists and their descendants. We are going to travel to the Sierra Nevada mountains in California to gather necessary material to create the instrument, relying on physically-based sound synthesis and photogrammetry techniques. We will present the final instrument in early March 2017 at a TIMARA festival dedicated to our studio technician, John Talbert. At this festival, we will have a demo period for all to play and interact with this instrument.
