Accommodations
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR ACCOMMODATIONS?
There are many academic resources available to all Oberlin College students. However, students who request accommodation on the basis of a diagnosed disability must register with the Office of Disability Services. Students who can provide documentation of a current diagnosis of a disability are eligible for services. The Director or Associate Director reviews these documents to establish eligibility and then meets with students on an individual basis in order to plan the appropriate accommodations.
REGISTERING WITH THE OFFICE OF DISABILITY SERVICES
Appropriate and reasonable accommodations are best determined through an interactive process that includes the student with the disability, the Office of Disability Services, course instructors, and other faculty or staff members as appropriate. Students are expected to make accommodation requests in a timely fashion.
1. Contact the Office of Disability Services. The initial request for accommodations is made to the Director or Associate Director.
2. Provide documentation of disability. Current documentation of disability is required in order to receive accommodations. Documentation guidelines can be found in the "Documentation" folder on this site.
3. Meet with the Director or Associate Director to discuss documentation and determination of the status of the student as a person with a disability. If the student is a person with a disability, ODS will determine the necessary accommodations. The student receives a letter verifying the student's disability status and needed accommodations. At this point, the student is responsible for either presenting the written request for accommodations .
4. Discuss details of the accommodations with faculty and staff members as appropriate. It is the student's responsibility to follow-up to arrange specific accommodations.
