Items Not Permitted in the Residence Halls
Appliances
- Air conditioners (please see the Accommodations Document if you medically need one)
- Amplifiers
- Appliances without automatic shut-off (included but not limited to: coffeemakers, clothing irons, hair curling irons)
- **Cooking appliances (including but not limited to: immersion heaters, popcorn poppers, hot plates or burners, water heaters, toasters, toaster ovens, microwaves, rice cookers)
- Electric, kerosene or other portable heaters
- Flammable wastebaskets
- Gas grills
- Grills with over 5lbs of charcoal
- Halogen lamps
- Lights not UL-approved
- Lights of higher wattage than the specified rating of the fixture
- No more than 1 refrigerator per room/unit (3 allowed in a quad)
- Ungrounded extension cords (must have 3 prongs)
- Water coolers
Alcohol & Drugs
- Alcohol in underage student possession
- Common source containers of alcohol (included but not limited to: kegs, beer balls)
- Drugs or illegal substances
- Drug paraphernalia (including but not limited to: pipes, bongs, hookahs)
- Items used for quick or mass consumption of alcohol (included but not limited to: beer bongs)
Furniture, Windows & Beds
- Any items affixed to or hanging from the ceiling
- Curtains, blinds and/or window treatments other than what the college provides
- Electric blankets or electric mattress pad covers
- Fabrics taking up more than 50% of a wall
- Fabrics affixed to or hanging from the ceiling
- Water-filled furniture
- **Wooden structures, including lofts and room dividers
Weapons (Registered or Not, Concealed or Not, Decorative or Practical)
- Ammunition (included but not limited to: gunpowder, mace, pepper spray)
- Fireworks or explosives
- Lock-picking devices
- Lock-picking devices
- Staffs or foils (must be kept in locker by classroom)
- Weapons (included but not limited to: rifles, shotguns, pistols, air pistols, spring powered weapons, kitchen knives, switchblade knives)
Extras
- Animals of any kind (fish and aquatic-only turtles allowed)
- Bicycles blocking egress
- Combustible fluids (gasoline, kerosene, paint thinners, etc.)
- Candles with a burned wick (includes holiday decorations)
- Incense
- Live or artificial trees over 4 ft tall (includes holiday trees)
- Motorcycles or other motorized machinery
- Poisonous, hazardous or unstable chemicals
**Permitted only in Village Housing (Firelands/apartments)
