Flute Academy and Flute Workshop

We are pleased to announce two different summer opportunities for flutists:

• Oberlin Flute Academy: NEXT OFFERED SUMMER 2015

• Oberlin Flute Intensive Workshop: NEXT OFFERED SUMMER 2015

The Oberlin Flute Academy is designed for high school students who wish to devote a week to intensive work on flute-playing skills during an exhilarating week of master classes, lessons, performance classes, and recitals. Masterclasses and performance sessions with Alexa Still will take place for six hours daily. Each participant will be taught in a masterclass session, perform in a public performance class, and receive one half-hour private lesson. Participants may work on any repertoire of their choice, including orchestral excerpts; however, it must be understood that the shorter the pieces chosen, the more opportunity participants will have to present different styles.

Works selected for performance (individual movements, selections from larger works and unaccompanied works are also welcome) must be under 7 minutes and should be prepared prior to attending the academy. If selected work for performance is accompanied, preparation prior to the academy should include rehearsal with a pianist to ensure familiarity with accompaniment.

Daily Schedule

This workshop is a jam-packed weekend of intensive performance and pedagogy with Alexa Still. Designed for a small group of teachers, advanced flute enthusiasts, professional and preprofessional flutists, these sessions are closed door—participants only—to facilitate in-depth discussion. Participants will prepare for and attend all sessions, performing twice. Please note that the applicant's level of engagement with the flute and personal suitability for this type of workshop are primary criteria for selection.
