Not so much....A tobacco-free workplace is one of the most effective, far-reaching and lasting approaches to reducing employee tobacco use. Tuesday, November 11, 2014Monday, November 17th Time: 7–8:30 p.m. Place: Wilder 112 Contact person: Martin Thomson-Jones Contact phone number: (440) 574 3263 Contact email address: email@example.com This wellness workshop for faculty and staff will provide an introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), an 8-week course that will be offered at Solaluna in the spring. MSC is an empirically-supported training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on research by Kristin Neff and the clinical work of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care, and understanding. Self-compassion can be learned by anyone, and it provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, less anxiety, depression, and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and satisfying personal relationships. And it’s easier than you think. This workshop will be a mix of short talks, experiential exercises, discussion, and an introductory meditation. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required, and there is no charge.
