Oberlin's Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM) is one of the five best college and university art museums in the United States. The museum, founded in 1917, has always been free for everyone.
Comprising more than 13,000 works of art from virtually every culture and spanning the history of art, the AMAM's collection is a vital cultural resource for the students, faculty, and staff of Oberlin College as well as the surrounding community. Notable strengths include 17th-century Dutch and Flemish art, 19th and early 20th-century European and contemporary American art, and Asian, European, and American works on paper.
Class visits, museum-based courses, workshops, and teaching exhibitions serve to link the AMAM's diverse holdings with the academic curriculum. Through additional student activities and Art Rental, the AMAM strives to ensure that all undergraduates have a meaningful museum experience as part of their liberal arts education.
