The Office of Financial Aid helps qualified applicants, who, without assistance, would be unable to pursue an Oberlin education. Each year nearly one-fifth of Oberlin’s annual budget goes to scholarship assistance, resulting in almost two-thirds of students receiving aid from the College, federal, state and private sources.
After careful review of the student’s application materials, the financial aid staff calculate and award financial aid to meet 100 percent of one’s demonstrated need, which is the difference between the total cost of attending Oberlin and the ability of the family to contribute to the educational cost. Financial aid is generally awarded in a three-part package that includes grants, low-interest student loans, and money earned through student employment.
