Safety Services

As the only 24-hour office on campus, the Office of Safety and Security alerts appropriate representatives of the college when they are needed after regular business hours.

Our officers routinely patrol buildings, residence halls, and grounds by foot, vehicle, and bicycle; provide walking safety escorts; work with the campus shuttle service; and offer crime prevention and other safety programs during the year.

Members of our safety and security team provide a variety of free services to students that simply require a phone call to initiate:

As part of the college’s emergency phone system, pick up and dial any one of the 41 highly visible Blue Light phones situated in parking lots, high-traffic pedestrian areas, and campus open space locations. Just look for the bright blue light atop a blue pedestal. You’ll find the other emergency phones at the primary entrance of each residence hall, and within some academic buildings. The automatic dialing capability provides direct contact with a safety and security communications officer, coded location of the call origin, and immediate dispatch of an officer.

Our student-staffed operation provides a stop-to-stop vehicle escort service from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily during the semester. Be sure to call if you find yourself alone or with friends at night and need a ride to a location on campus.

Why trek around campus alone when you can have someone walk with you? Request a walking safety escort to or from any college building, residence hall, or parking lot by calling the Office of Safety and Security or by using any of the distinctively marked blue campus emergency phones.

Many students bring their bikes to campus, along with other valuable items. Our crime prevention program, Operation Identification, discourages burglary and theft by permanently identifying valuables. We can engrave personal identification on valuable items to make items difficult to sell or pawn should they be stolen. Operation Identification also helps police and the safety and security office identify lost or stolen property. We have several electric engravers that you may borrow free of charge. We provide forms to record personal property and serial numbers.
