Community Service

Many students choose Oberlin because of its long-standing reputation of service to the community. While the College's Bonner Center for Service and Learning connects students to community organizations, students often involve themselves in Oberlin Community Services, a responsive community organization that provides direct assistance, referrals, and other services to Oberlin and southern Lorain County residents and groups that need help meeting basic needs.

Established in 1955, OCS staff and Oberlin College Work Study students, along with local volunteers, have supported schools, churches, medical and social service providers, and civic and business groups to offer a range of services to low-income residents. These services might include transportation to a doctor's appointment or utility assistance.

Students also volunteer as math tutors to fourth- and sixth-grade children and help with computer training at The Bridge, the community technology center.
