Information for Registered Participants

We look forward to seeing you next week at the After Fossil Fuels conference in Oberlin. Here are a few details in preparation for the event.

Attendee Check-in

All attendees should check in at the conference registration table located in the Hotel at Oberlin (10 E. College St.) lobby before attending their first session. The conference desk will be open at the following times:

  • Thursday, October 6, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
  • Friday, October 7, 7 a.m.–9 a.m., 1 p.m.–3 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 8, 7 a.m.–9 a.m.

Please note that your conference name badge will be used for entrance into the daily sessions. The evening talks are open to the general public with no advance registration required.

Your registration at the conference includes continental breakfast and a box lunch on Friday, October 7 and continental breakfast on October 8, all on the second floor of the Hotel at Oberlin. Dinners, unless otherwise noted by specific invitation-only events on campus, are on your own. A list of nearby restaurants in Oberlin can be found here.

Transportation and Parking

All four conference venues are near each other (see map). We encourage you, weather permitting, to park any vehicles for the day and walk to the conference locations. The two-hour parking limits on North Main Street/Route 58 along the west side of the hotel will be suspended on Friday and Saturday for the conference. In addition, parking lots behind the hotel and in town will be available.

Pre-conference Reading

We have posted relevant readings, including the background paper specifically prepared for this conference, Systemic Crisis and Systemic Change in the United States in the 21st Century, by Gar Alperovitz, James Gustave Speth, Ted Howard, and Joe Guinan. Familiarity with these will help facilitate engaging discussions during the conference.

Streaming the Conference Live

Each session of the three-day conference will be streamed live on Oberlin Live, one of Oberlin College’s YouTube channels, where the footage will also be archived permanently for later viewing. By registering to attend any or all of this conference, you are hereby affirming that you understand and agree that your likeness may appear in this footage and that you understand and agree to refrain from recording the conference in any medium.

Please refer to the Program page for updated program and schedule information. You may also contact with any questions.

We look forward to seeing you in Oberlin next week!
