The Sonic Arts Workshop will return in June 2018

The TIMARA studios, home of the Sonic Arts Workshop, will be renovated during the summer of 2017.  We apologize to everyone who was looking forward to participating this summer, but please return for summer 2018.  The studios will be refurbished and open for electronic creativity!  If you have any questions about SAW or the TIMARA Department at Oberlin, please contact Tom Lopez and Peter Swendsen.

Application Deadline: April 10

Dedicated high school students, aged 15 years and older, have an opportunity to focus on the composition of electroacoustic music and expand their technical and creative resources during this 10-day workshop. Participants are chosen through a competitive selection process. The workshop is not open to students who've graduated from high school.

Topics will include digital audio editing and manipulation, real-time computer music performance techniques, and discussion of pieces from the field's growing repertoire. The program will cover issues of interest to young composers heading toward conservatory studies and those generally interested in experimenting with electroacoustic music and its intersections with other disciplines.

Participants will work with codirectors Tom Lopez and Peter V. Swendsen, faculty in the conservatory’s Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA) Program.
