New Students Make a Difference with Day of Service A new class of Oberlin students will reaffirm Oberlin College’s long-standing commitment to community service when they arrive on campus this fall. Now in its 14th year, Oberlin College’s Day of Service will welcome first-year and transfer students to engage with the Lorain County community and connect with more than 30 local organizations.

Oberlin Observatory upgrades telescope

Oberlin College astronomy students and the general public will take to the skies this fall with a brand new telescope in Peters Hall Observatory.

The college is upgrading the observatory, situated in the dome atop Peters Hall, by replacing its main telescope with a new Meade LX200 equipped with a 14-inch aperture for viewing comets, stars, planets, and other astronomical phenomena.

Oberlin College has received a $250,000 grant from The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to support the Oberlin Research Fellows Program, a summer program that provides two-year, faculty-mentored research opportunities for talented Oberlin College students who are low-income, the first in their families to attend college, or from groups underrepresented in higher education.
