Educational Background

  • B.A. in Ethnomusicology (1993),University of California, Los Angeles.
  • M.A., African American Studies (June 2008), University of California, Los Angeles.


Interests

As an educator, he is Faculty-In-Residence, Afrikan Heritage House at Oberlin College. He has is currently teaching Introduction to African American Music and Great Thinkers in the African American Improvisational Tradition. Mr. Jones is Co-Chair of Music for the California State Summer School for the Arts. As an internationally recognized performing artist, he has recorded and performed throughout the U.S.,  Europe, Asia and Africa.

He has been a featured soloist with the WDR Radio Orchestra of Koln, Germany as well as the Atlanta and Detroit Symphonies in premier performances of Dr. Lateef's "African American Epic Suite".

Ralph has recently composed original music for the award winning documentary film, "Tell Me, Cuba".His most recent cd's are "Ye-Yi" a duo with Adam Rudolph and "Woodwinds" with Yusef Lateef.
