Research Interests: Marko Dumančić is currently working on a book project dealing with the changing conceptions of Cold War masculinity in Soviet film in the fifteen years after Joseph Stalin’s death in 1953. This project looks at why the Soviet authorities spent so many resources policing depictions of masculinity, how Cold War culture affected the production of gendered images, and how Soviet moviegoers reacted to the new Soviet movie heroes. He is also finalizing an essay dealing with the depiction of queerness in post-Yugoslav film.
Prof. Dumančić’s broader research interests include Cold War history, European film history, and history of sexuality in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Prof. Dumančić teaches survey courses on Russian history and upper-level courses on the history of European sexualities, Cold War in the Soviet bloc, and Central Asian history.
