Oberlin's community of committed faculty, staff, and students are united by a common desire to learn, explore, share, and lead, which is supported by a strong liberal arts program marked by rigor, creativity, and social engagement.

Oberlin's rich variety of academic departments represent many of the central disciplines of knowledge, from chemistry to English to sociology. Many departments are interdisciplinary in nature, which encourages collaboration and allows you to expand disciplinary boundaries, such as African American studies, Jewish studies, East Asian studies, and environmental studies.

Did You Know

Oberlin College has been a leader in improving the environment. The Adam J. Lewis Center for Environmental Studies opened in November 1999. It was designed to purify and reuse non-potable wastewater on site, use sustainably grown or produced materials, and eliminate the use of toxic materials, among other features. The building is intended to be a laboratory that showcases environmentally efficient building technologies and sustainable building techniques. The Lewis Center has won several major architectural awards and continues to attract considerable national attention.
