A native of Austin, Texas, he spent the early part of his professional career assisting John Conklin, John Lee Beatty, Avant Garde Director and Designer, Robert Wilson, as well as the eminent Austrian Set Designer, Erich Wonder, on productions with The Metropolitan Opera, The San Francisco Opera, The Bavarian State Opera, Opernhaus Zurich, Theater Hamburg, Hartford Stage, Houston Grand Opera, The Alley Theater, The Kennedy Center, Martha Graham Dance Company, The Edinburgh Frestival, The Lincoln Center Festival, and Manhattan Theater Club.
As a freelance Set and Costume Designer based in Austin, he designed for most of the performing arts companies based there, including, Austin Musical Theater, Austin Lyric Opera, Ballet Austin, The State Theatre, The University of Texas Theater and Dance program and Butler Opera Center, Zach Theater, Frontera Theater, St. Edwards University, Live Oak Theater, and Project Interact. He designed the first major production of the opera LITTLE WOMEN by Mark Adamo, for Houston Grand Opera, which was also broadcast by PBS’ Great Performances. He designed the premiere production of TUNA DOES VEGAS as well as a new version of A TUNA CHRISTMAS for the original performers and writers of these audience favorites, that recently toured the country. His designs have also been seen at Minnesota Opera, Arizona Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Utah Opera, Vancouver Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and BalletMet Columbus. He spent 6 and a half seasons as Resident Scenic Designer at Theatre Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. While in Memphis he served on the Theater Panel for the Tennessee Arts Commission, which regularly reviews Theater Arts Grants. In 2010, he received a Professional Artist Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission in recognition of his consistent, outstanding work as a designer.
He has received numerous local awards in both Austin and Memphis for his design work. Some favorite designs include: WELDON RISING, AND BABY MAKES SEVEN, ANNIE, EUGENE ONEGIN, POLAROID STORIES, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, OKLAHOMA, ONCE IN A LIFETIME, LIGHT; THE HOLOCAUST AND HUMANITY PROJECT, ANDREA CHENIER, SWEET CHARITY, TWELFTH NIGHT, AMERICAN FIESTA, FULL GALLOP, THE SISTERS ROSENZWEIG, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, NIGHT OF THE IGUANA, and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.
