The Tallis Scholars to Perform at Oberlin College on February 15

From Dream to Reality: Pianist Peter Takács’ Vision Comes Full Circle
Marina Kifferstein '12 - Feb 01, 2012Professor of Piano Peter Tákacs' recording of "The Complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas" has made the cut for three Best of 2011 critics' choice lists since its July 2011 release. The 11-disc box set has been praised as "outstanding," and is "recommended as one of the finest Beethoven sonata cycles of any year."

Operatic Legend Marilyn Horne To Present Master Classes February 24 and 26
Feb 01, 2012Renowned mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne returns to campus in February as the conservatory's Danenberg Distinguished Professor of Voice. Her residency will include master classes with Oberlin voice students, which are open to the public and free for Artist Recital Series subscribers. Classes will be held in Finney Chapel on February 24 and 26, and tickets are available through the box office at 800-371-0178 or oberlin.edu/arseries.

Oberlin Conservatory Announces Rubin Institute Prize Winners
Jan 22, 2012At the culminating ceremony, Oberlin Conservatory of Music announced the recipients of the two prizes of its new Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, the first-ever program of its kind focusing on performance and performance review. In a surprise turn of events, honorable mentions were also awarded in both prize categories, the Rubin Prize in Music Criticism and the Public Review Prize.

Oberlin Conservatory Students Perform and Study in Czech Republic
Adam Parker-Lavine '13 - Jan 04, 2012This summer, string students from around the world will have the opportunity to study strings and chamber music in the small Czech town of Litomysl with Milan Vitek, Oberlin Conservatory professor of violin. Vitek has been teaching in Litomysl since 1996, just a few years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, an event which allowed him to return to his home country for the first time in decades.

Oberlin Conservatory has Strength in Numbers at 54th Grammy Awards
Adam Parker-Lavine, '13 - Jan 03, 2012The Oberlin Conservatory will be represented by numerous faculty and alumni projects at the 2012 Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 12. Professors Peter Takács and Jamey Haddad, and alumni from groups including eighth blackbird and International Contemporary Ensemble, collaborated on recordings that garnered nominations in such categories as Best Small Ensemble Performance, Best Engineered Classical Album, and Best Jazz Vocal Album, among others.
