Riis Elected Alumni Trustee

Thomas Riis ’73

Thomas Riis ’73 has been confirmed by the Oberlin College Board of Trustees to serve a four-year term after winning the 2014 alumni trustee election. Following his graduation from Oberlin, Riis taught at the University of Georgia, where he developed the university’s first ethnomusicology courses. In 1992 he moved to the University of Colorado-Boulder to become director of its American Music Research Center and professor of musicology. Riis replaces trustee Jacob Gayle ’79, whose term concluded this spring. Photo courtesy of Thomas Riis.

Riis discusses his vision for Oberlin.

Are You on Switchboard Yet?

Switchboard

What is Switchboard? Imagine Craigslist without creepiness, specific to the Oberlin community but less localized than the Oberlin classifieds. Switchboard allows students, alumni, faculty, and staff to help each other through asks (“I need something”) and offers (“I have something”) wherever they are in the world. Registration takes only a few moments and you can preview how the system works before signing up. Ma’ayan Plaut ’10 has written a helpful tutorial to highlight many of the features of Switchboard.
