Guests
Are you a visitor to Oberlin College? Are you faculty, staff or a student hosting a visitor?
Visitors may want to check email, surf the web, print a boarding pass, etc. Some visitors may be here as part of conferences or workshops, necessitating network access. Visitors to Oberlin College can get access to our College network, either via their own personal computers, or by logging in on a lab computer.
For Guests
- Get a Sponsored Account. Any regular ObieID account holder (faculty, staff, or student) can create a Sponsored Account. Sponsored Accounts may also be obtained at various locations on campus:
- Mudd Center, main floor, Library Circulation Desk
- Alumni Office
- Admissions Office
- Oberlin Inn
- Mudd Level A, room 005, CIT Help Desk
- Note existing computer settings. This makes it easy to revert to them when you return to your home or workplace.
- Connect to the network. Connect your computer to the wireless network called ObieGuest.
- Enter your account information. Open a web browser. Enter the above username and password and click "Submit". You will have to enter this information every 24 hours; open your web browser, first thing, when connecting on campus.
- Return home. Revert network settings to those prior to coming to campus.
Note: Sponsored Accounts are valid for 3 days from the date of creation. Longer-term accounts may be created with valid requests. Visit the CIT Help Desk to extend your account.
If you experience any difficulties, feel free to contact our CIT Help Desk (775-8197, cit@oberlin.edu). Now, we can't possibly know all the details of the various computer systems out there, but we'll do our very best to get you connected!
For Hosts
In order to connect to the network, your guest will require a Sponsored Account. Any Oberlin College account holder (faculty, staff or student) can create a Sponsored Account.
Do not allow your guest to use your own, personal ObieID. You are responsible for all activity from that account.
Once you've issued your guest a Sponsored Account, direct him or her to the directions above for connection details.
During Special Events
At special times during the year, CIT may elect to remove the requirement for a guest to have a Sponsored Account in order to use ObieGuest. This will be reserved for times when very large amounts of people may be expected on campus, all or a large number of of which may desire network connectivity (such as Commencement). When this circumstance occurs, information on the use of ObieGuest will be posted on OnCampus and/or via the Events Calendar.
