Guests

Are you a visitor to Oberlin College?  Are you faculty, staff or a student hosting a visitor?

Visitors may want to check email, surf the web, print a boarding pass, etc.  Some visitors may be here as part of conferences or workshops, necessitating network access. Visitors to Oberlin College can get access to our College network, either via their own personal computers, or by logging in on a lab computer.

For Guests

Network Access without Printing

If want to connect a computer or mobile device you've brought to campus but don't need to print, you don't need an account. Simply connect to the wireless network called ObieWiFi.

Network Access with Printing or Computer Lab Use

If you need to use a computer in one of Oberlin's open-use labs or want to print, you'll need to get what is known as a Sponsored Account first. Sponsored Accounts may be obtained at the locations on campus listed below or from any faculty and staff member on campus.

  • the CIT Help Desk (Mudd 112B)
  • Alumni Services
  • Conference Services
  • the Mudd Library Circulation Desk
  • the Conservatory Summer Programs Office
  • the Oberlin Inn

Once you've obtained a Sponsored Account, you can use these credentials to log in to any open-use computer on campus and can also use it to authenticate when printing. All Sponsored Accounts come preloaded with $2.00 of print credit (about 25 pages).

Note: Sponsored Accounts are valid for 3 days from the date of creation. Longer-term accounts may be created with valid requests. Visit the CIT Help Desk to extend your account or to add additional print credit.

If you experience any difficulties, feel free to contact our CIT Help Desk (775-8197, cit@oberlin.edu).  We can't possibly know all the details of the various computer systems out there, but we'll do our very best to get you connected!

    For Hosts

In order to connect to the network, your guest does not need an account. Just direct them to connect to the network called ObieWiFi. If they need to print or use a computer lab on campus, they will require a Sponsored Account. Any faculty or staff member can create a Sponsored Account; students should contact one of the offices listed above to have an account created.

Do not allow your guest to use your own, personal ObieID. You are responsible for all activity from that account.

Once you've issued your guest a Sponsored Account, direct him or her to the directions above for connection details.
