First Year Residential Experience
The First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) cluster is an integral part of the overall first year programs on Oberlin's campus. Students living in these communities which include Barrows, Dascomb and Kahn halls, will receive support and resources specific to their needs in their first year at Oberlin. Sample programs that occur in this cluster include:
First Lecture - a talk by a faculty member about his/her first year of college.
Professor Props - a recognition program involving first year students recognizing their favorite instructor, mentor and advisor.
Academic Ambassador programs - discussing Winter Term plans, the pass/no-pass option and how to succeed in classes.
Social programs - such as ice cream socials, tv nights, attending campus events and intramural sports to get students connected to other community members and the campus in general.
