Health Services
All full-time students enrolled at Oberlin College are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. A fee for this insurance is included on the fall semester term bill unless proof of comparable coverage is provided by the waiver deadline.
The plan covers injury and sickness. Some of the benefits include inpatient hospitalization, outpatient doctor's visits, x-rays, laboratory charges, surgery and emergency care. There are limitations and maximums that do apply to the benefit.
Refer to the Student Health Insurance FAQ for more details.
All students studying abroad on Oberlin-sponsored programs and all international students are required to purchase the Student Health Insurance without exception. In addition, athletes and students whose insurance does not cover services provided in Oberlin are strongly encouraged to buy the Student Health Insurance. This insurance can also be used to cover costs that may not be covered by a student's own insurance plan.
Primary Care
Most services offered at Student Health Services are covered by tuition. Student Health Services includes a primary care facility whose staff is experienced in treating common medical problems seen on college campuses. Initial diagnosis and treatment for a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries and follow-up care are offered.
On-site specialty care includes certain immunization and allergy services, and gynecological health care, including birth control services. All other specialty care is done through a network of local experts available to our staff. Basic laboratory services appropriate to a college community are available; more complex services will be referred out. Costs for referrals to specialists, more complex laboratory work, international immunizations, or X-rays are handled through the student's insurance provider or by the student.
24-Hour Nurse Line
A 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, toll-free telephone line (877-924-7758) offers health advice from a registered nurse and access to an audio information library that provides practical, easy-to-understand recorded information on more than 450 health-related topics.
Student Health Services is at 247 West Lorain St., in Oberlin. Students requiring medical care should call and schedule an appointment. A daily walk-in hour for appointments is available to students when scheduling one prohibits them from meeting other commitments. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
